Melissa Kushner, Founder and Executive Director of Goods for Good, has spent her entire career dedicated to international development. She was first presented with the opportunity to travel to abroad to Malawi, East Africa with her mentor from the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships in 2003. Melissa knew that she would be exposed to extreme poverty and wanted to do more than just visit; she wanted to contribute. In preparation for her trip she researched the needs of the region and initiated a delivery program to an under-funded orphanage and community center serving children affected by AIDS.
It’s only 10 days until Christmas, which means you’ve got somewhere between five to seven days (depending on the proximity of your friends and family members) to get all your cards personally and festively inscribed, stamped, and in the mail.
Now before you allow yourself to become one of those people whose holiday greetings arrive delinquently, just know two things: one, it’s lazy, and two, it’s lazy and tacky. This year, instead of going through the headache of realizing too late that the First Class postage has been upped to $.44 (ask my friend Lisa who recently sent out 90 mis-postaged birthday invitations, and she’ll tell you how it feels), I urge you to go eco-friendly and send the special people in your life a charmingly illustrated eCard courtesy of the non-profit Goods for Good (G4G).
Designed by five NYC- and London-based graphic artists and illustrators, nonprofit Goods for Good’sholiday ecards one-ups others with images that we like a little better than standard Hallmark fare. The project adds humor and gorgeously hand-rendered graphics to the usual eCard concept of eliminating environmental concerns about sending holiday greetings and offering procrastinators a chance at spreading last-minute joy.
Goods for Good Founder and Executive Director, Melissa Kushner, was chosen by the Gap to participte in their 40th Anniversary Born to Fit Campaign as someone who was “Born to do Good.”
