Levison Masauko is seven years old. He lives in the Dowa district of Malawi and is a standard 2 student at St. Mathias Primary School. Levison is an orphan and has lived at St. Mary’s, a Goods 4 Good partner and orphan care center, for the majority of his young life. “I came to stay at St. Mary’s when I was a baby,” he said. “I used to stay with my relatives but I was suffering and was taken to St. Mary’s for care and protection.”
St. Mary’s is home to 130 children and provides home and school-based services to several hundred others. Due to limited funding and an overwhelming number of children in need, St. Mary’s lacks adequate and reliable access to material resources. Since 2004, Goods 4 Good has provided over ten tons of material support to St. Mary’s in the form of clothing, educational toys, school supplies, and health and hygeine products to help them care for children like Levison.
Levison spoke to our Malawi-based Program Manager, Aaron Lewani, about his ambitions and desire to do well in school. “I would like to be a teacher when I grow up. I like school because at the end you become educated” he said. Levison recently received two pens from Goods for Good, which he says encourage him and his friends to work hard in class.
