This is Brazilio Chibawana, one of our teachers at Kachulu Primary School in Malawi. He is holding up one of the lesson plans he uses to teach the 91 students in his third grade class.
This past January, Kachulu received a Teachers Supply Closet containing enough school supplies for teachers to teach 1,000 students for an entire year. Since its arrival, teachers report that the Supply Closet has made possible a more valuable school experience for both students and teachers.
Mr. Chibawana is especially happy with his Life Skills course. “Life Skills is a very important subject. A teacher needs many flip charts, papers, pens, and pencils to demonstrate the work clearly to the children.” While flipping through drawings he uses to teach the students, Mr. Chibawana said that he finds his job much easier now that the Goods 4 Good materials have been delivered. He now feels he is can effectively impart skills like conflict resolution, decision making, problem solving, and self-confidence to the children.
“Learners become highly interested when teachers incorporate materials into the lesson,” he said. “Using these materials will promote critical thinking and encourage the children to enjoy their subjects, thus ensuring that they learn as much as possible.”
