This week we distributed 1,122 pencils and 3,108 pens to three primary schools overseen by the Tiyambe Nawo Goods Distribution. They were black ink pens and lead pencils donated by an American pharmaceutical company and pencils purchased in local shops in Malawi.
Before distributing the goods, the chiefs and School Committee members gave a short speech to the children advising them to take care of their beautiful pens, pencils and use them for learning. Students were reminded to give the additional pens to their parents for safe storage.
At Nkangamira school, a special meeting oriented the new teachers to the program: “We have beautiful things happening at our school and we need your dedication to make sure that Goods for Good efforts are yielding results,’’ said Group Village Headman Nkangamira during the meeting.
Group Village Headman Nkangamira noted that that the Ministry of Education had sent two additional teachers, making it four teachers working at Nkangamira Junior Primary School. “I am now confident that the materials being given to the students are falling on the fertile ground and will yield good fruits,” said Chief Nkangamira. (One of the new teachers can be seen in the picture above addressing the students.)
There was a loud cheer when the students saw a Goods for Good vehicle approaching their school, and the teachers had tough time controling excited younger students who started shouting: “Goods! Goods! Goods!” They love their new supplies.
